On Friday, Feb. 17, Central Connection hosted a networking event at Bowlero in North Brunswick. The event, which more than 75 members attended, was first announced here at njea.org/earlycareermembers. The event was organized by Kevin Bloom, a member of the Sayreville Education Association of Middlesex County.
The Valentine’s Day-themed event asked members to share their love for their union by bringing a new member with them. Attendees were welcomed to The Alementary with a meal, courtesy of the Good Mood Food Truck, as well as a bag containing NJEA Member Benefits information.
The members of NJEA’s early career member network have been busy giving thought to the financial needs of their peers across the state. Check out these upcoming events and other resources.
12/13/16: NJEA for the holidays with Team South.
The following email went out to early career members yesterday:
I wanted to reach out one more time to make sure you’ve heard all the buzz around our annual Convention in Atlantic City coming up next week on Nov. 10 and 11. At the NJEA Convention, you’ll experience two days of professional development and networking with your peers from all across the state.
You won’t want to miss these details on the hottest Convention event:
Members networked over food and drinks as they prepared for their hour being locked in a room together. Before the walk between venues, Central Regional Education Association member Josh Eckersley welcomed members with a humorous (yet scary) take on why it matters that members work together to escape the troubles they face in our careers.
I wrote you about this event on Sept. 27. Since then we’ve had 25 early career local leaders register, and we have some room left.
Come on out for an evening of networking with your peers and join us for a Black and White Convention Kick Off Party for early career local association leaders (presidents, vice presidents, secretaries, and treasurers)!

On Wednesday, October 19, the Middlesex County Education Association hosted an event for early career members. Called “the ABCs of Membership,” the event took the form of a Member Benefits Fair and World Cafe discussion. Some 50 members attended the event, which was first announced here on njea.org/earlycareermembers.
Last year we joined together at the end of a long day on the Convention floor for an evening of networking at Haven. I am excited to invite you to attend NJEA’s third annual Early Career Member Networking Event.
Date: Thursday, November 10
What: Early Career Member Networking Event at Convention 2016
Time: 6 PM
Location: Haven in the Golden Nugget
RSVP: Register Here
We’ll be at Haven, one of the hottest nightclubs in the country, again this year. I’m really looking forward to the tasting menu — paired with a complimentary drink — that showcases samples from the restaurants that call the Golden Nugget home, including The Chart House.
I’m glad that you’ll be joining us at our third annual Early Career Member Networking Event on Thursday, November 10. I’m looking forward to seeing you at Haven in the Golden Nugget at 6 p.m.
Almost 300 members have registered so far, so there is still room for more members to join us. Feel free to encourage your colleagues to RSVP by directing them here. Remember that . . .
● Members attending will enjoy a sampling menu from the best restaurants in The Golden Nugget, including sushi, sliders, crab cakes, dessert, and more – all paired with a complimentary drink.
● Members will get to unwind and relax after a long day on the Convention floor. Take this time to socialize and network with like-minded members from across the state. No agendas, just networking.
Don’t forget to tell your early career colleagues about our additions to “The Corner of 1st and 5th” – an area of the Convention floor designed for members who are early in their careers. There will be discussions at the top of every hour on Thursday and Friday. Hosted by members just like you, these discussions don’t have an agenda. They will be member-to-member conversations around topics that matter to you and your career. Join us for a conversation about getting out of student loan debt, parental involvement strategies, and the flipped classroom. Take a look at all ten of our scheduled discussions and we’ll see you on the Convention floor.
During Friday’s flipped classroom discussion, we invite you to join us for a pizza luncheon. We’d love to have you join us for discussion over pizza. If you want in on this, please email Andrew Lewis at firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your spot!
