It can often be challenging to motivate members to attend a meeting. However, try promising your members a 10-minute building meeting timed by the clock.
Communicating information by email is simply not enough anymore. Members need to hear the important things from you, and you can’t send your passion about this subject through email.
• Stay within the 10-minute timeline. Then, people will be willing to trust you THE NEXT TIME you ask them to come to a 10-minute meeting.
• If some people want to stay beyond 10 minutes and ask questions, make it clear to the rest that the meeting is over and they need only stay if they wish.
• Try offering your meetings at different times so that all members, including ESP members, can attend.
NJEA offers these meeting outlines to get you started:
Members who are early in their careers are often overwhelmed at the beginning of the school year, especially if they are beginning their first year. Although these members usually hear from the association during their new member orientation, it is important that they receive follow-up from their association representatives within the first month of the school year. Introducing members to their building’s association support system will improve relationships and help our members successfully navigate their first few years.
Although each of NJEA’s 900+ local associations can be very different, all share a basic structure. Each member has a place within this structure, giving each member a voice. It is important that members know and understand that they have a place within their local associations and can make an impact.
One of the perks of being an NJEA member is access to our Member Benefits partners. The programs offered are designed to save you money and increase buying power. The NJEA Member Benefits program can help members looking for insurance, find big- ticket items at outstanding prices, or just find a special deal on an everyday purchase.
In the state of New Jersey, certificated staff, secretaries, and some custodians can earn tenure.
Tenure allows you to advocate for the needs of your students without fear of repercussions that could affect your job. Ultimately, tenure gives your students the stability and consistency they need to reach their full potential.
Don’t miss our customizable tenure certificate, too!
